Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)

The journey begins at Momella Gate, where trekkers pass through lush forests, encountering wildlife like giraffes and buffaloes. The trail ascends to Miriakamba Hut for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,570m)

The trek continues through montane forests and moorland, reaching Saddle Hut. In the afternoon, an optional hike to Little Meru (3,820m) offers acclimatization and stunning sunset views.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4,566m) & Descend to Miriakamba Hut

An early morning ascent leads to the summit via a steep, rocky ridge. Reaching Socialist Peak at sunrise rewards climbers with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley. After taking in the sights, the descent begins, returning to Miriakamba Hut for a restful night.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

The final descent through lush forests and open plains completes the trek. A vehicle transfer awaits at Momella Gate, marking the end of an incredible adventure.

Best Time to Climb

Mount Meru can be climbed year-round, but the best seasons are:
June – October: Dry conditions and clear skies for the best views.
December – March: Lush green landscapes with mild temperatures.
